Our Vision & History
A warm and welcoming community, Warragul Crownlea is the legacy of proud Warragul locals John and Gloria Castle, who pictured a neighbourhood where families could flourish and grow. The kind of place where you can escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy life.
Whether it’s taking a morning walk with the dog, joining the family for a bike ride, or taking in some of the best views of the region. Life here is picture-perfect. No wonder John referred to Warragul as paradise. We think you will too!

1971
John and Gloria establish their first business together. Combining dairy farming and farm contracting.
1982
Undertaking site works at the West Gippsland Art Centre marks a transition into large scale earth moving contracting.
1983
Completed siteworks for Woolworths in Warragul.
1984
Warraview Close subdivision was the first residential project for what was to become Jana Land.
1986
Established Warragul and Drouin Excavations, focussing on civil construction including earth moving, building sites, underpasses and small subdivisions.
2001
Completed the 247 km Mallee and Wimmera Pipeline.
2003
Baw Baw Developments, a partnership between John and a group of business associates launch Waterford Rise, the first large residential estate in Warragul.
2008
Developed the Jana Business Park which has become the major location for local industry & for large format businesses such as Kmart & Bunnings.
2011
Jana Group was established incorporating all aspects of land development and civil construction.
2013 - 2015
The Jana Group completed multiple projects including residential estates & commercial developments. It also constructed an industrial factory for one of Australia’s largest laundries - Park Avenue Industrial Laundry.
2017
The purchase of a number of parcels of land on the south side of Warragul enable John to masterplan a residential estate of 1,100 lots. This estate is known as Warragul Crownlea.
2018
John provided valuable advice to the Ouyen Lake Project Committee which greatly assisted them in the construction of this wonderful community facility.

John’s passing marked the transfer of the Jana Group vision and legacy to the second and third generations of the family.About the Developer
